8wire.org

8wire.org came about when I was reading the local papers one fine day and came across an article about harnessing the Kiwis 'can-do' spirit. Number 8 wire culture is a term that was derived from the days when New Zealanders or Kiwis as they are commonly known lived on lonely farms scattered far apart.

Number 8 fencing wire was the only material that they had in abundance. So they used it not only for cattle fence and paddocks, but also as an all-purpose material, bending, twisting and shaping it into coat hangers, kitchen utensils, gate-locks and even chairs. Over time, the Number 8 wire came to epitomise a culture of adaptability and creativity, a 'can-do' spirit of which the Kiwis are proud of.

Thus 8wire.org. Two things lead me to obtain the moniker for my domain's name. First, the 'can-do' spirit. How apt could it be, this was almost the same slogan my *clicks gave ourselves during our college days - "can means can", loosely translated into if an event is technically possible, we can achieved it so there is no need to fret or be anxious about it.

Second, do you know how difficult it is to get a domain name that you want registered! Most of the domain names combination are already taken or being hoarded by re-sellers. Try it for yourself and you may end up sitting in front of a computer trying a few hundred names to no avail. Thus whenever I come across a phrase I like, I will try to register it to see if anyone has taken it. I was furious when I managed to register 8wire.net sucessfully but was told the next day someone has beaten me to it 1 day earlier. This is due to the registry only refreshing itself every 24 hours. So I went for the second best, 8wire.org and struck gold.

*clicks: slang. a group of people that hit off and function well together.
